Mom Squad

Moms Supporting Moms: Life with Baby Support Group of Durham Region

Are you a new mom and want to get out with your baby and meet other moms? This is the group for you.

On Monday March 18, 2019, Monday April 1, 2019, Monday April 15, 2019 and Monday April 29, 2019 we will be hosting a new support group for moms with babies. It is a safe place to come and meet other moms, learn about topics related to issues that come with new parenthood, and feel supported and heard. Join us for one of the dates or join us for all four dates. This is a pilot project and we need moms with babies to help us get it off the ground.

The group is facilitated by Shelley Whynot and will be held at Durham Natural Health Centre 1550 Kingston Road, Unit #318 in Pickering. Space is limited, so it is important to register to reserve your spot.

Mom Squad

Mom Squad has been a work of heart for many months now. Shelley facilitates a postpartum support group for women at 2, 4 and 6 weeks postpartum at a local midwifery clinic. There has been overwhelming response and endless requests to continue beyond the discharge date at 6 weeks postpartum. So began the search for the best space to continue offering new moms an opportunity to get out and meet other moms. This group wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of Dr. Natalie McCulloch of Durham Natural Health Centre in Pickering. The bi-weekly sessions will be held on Mondays from 10 to 11 am at their offices at 1550 Kingston Rd, Unit #318, Pickering. Our aim is to provide valuable information, resources and support. It is an opportunity to tackle the real issues that come with parenthood in an open, honest way so you can get the resources and support you need as a new mom. This group is for moms with a new baby from birth until those wee ones get mobile. The space and structure are created for moms with babies in arms. Ultimately our vision is to connect new moms with other moms and help them build their tribe of support. It is a place to come and feel heard, acknowledged and supported. In addition to social support, our vision is to provide valuable information through a network of local professionals on a variety of topics including:
  • Adjustment to parenthood
  • Developmental Milestones and the challenges they bring
  • Mental Health
  • Self Care
  • Breastfeeding
  • Sleep Issues
  • Staying Healthy
  • Dealing with Fatigue
  • Handling Advice
  • and much much more!!

The Key Values of this Project

Empowerment: New moms can feel overwhelmed and we want new moms to feel empowered in their new role and that includes building their tribe. Community: New mothers can often feel isolated, and our goal is to create a sense of community to again reach that end goal of building your tribe. Moving forward there will be a nominal fee to cover some of the basic costs and time related to organizing and running such a project. Watch for more being added to the website as we work through this project. Choose a date, or choose all four dates to come join us!! We are excited to you have on this journey.
